Edith says: "This is a painting of me as a baby. I painted several from the same photo processing envelope which contained photos of my mother pregnant, the empty Moses basket, me in the transparent hospital cot, my parents holding me, and me in the Moses basket. It also contained, bizarrely, photos of Rachel Whiteread's House, which my parents evidently visited around that time. It seemed a remarkably appropriate artwork to go with all these images of vessels (cot, basket, womb) both full and empty of baby."
