Full caption: Edith Dormandy, 'Toby My Fox Cub: Future Fox', 2020, watercolour on paper, 46x35cm
This work is only available unframed, but Edith can recommend a framing style on request.
Edith says: "This is a painting of a page from a non-fiction children’s book from 1931, called 'Toby, My Fox-Cub: Being the story of Toby, the Pet Vixen, Her Upbringing, Pranks and Adventures', by Frances Pit. My copy was owned by my maternal grandmother. I find it a very touching book about nurture and love without sentimentality. I’m sure the caption was not intended as a reference to emergence theory, but the idea makes me laugh: Toby as an emergent entity. Pit was also involved in the local hunt. What contradictory creatures we humans are!"
